Juan José Linz Storch de Gracia, born in 1926 in Bonn, is Professor Emeritus at Yale University, having developed a good part of his academic career in the United States.
He graduated, with an extraordinary award, in Political Science (1947) and Law (1948) from the Complutense University of Madrid. He obtained a Doctorate in Sociology from Columbia University in New York (1959) with a thesis on "The Social Basis of Political Parties in West Germany."
He taught at the Complutense University of Madrid from 1947, moving to Columbia University in January 1960 and Yale in 1968, until his retirement. At the same time, he has taught at the School of Industrial Organization of Madrid (1959), at Stanford University (1966), at the Autonomous University of Madrid (1968), at the European University Institute in Florence (1979), Max Weber Visiting Professor at the University of Heidelberg (1983), at the Institut des Sciences Politiques in Paris (1994), Eric Voegling Visiting Professor at the Umboldt Universität in Berlin (1997).

In 1982 he was awarded the Europa Prize in Fiuggi (Italy); In 1986 he obtained the Commandery of the Order of Isabel la Católica and in the following year, 1987, he was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award for Social Sciences.
He has published a significant number of books and scientific monographs, as well as a set of articles in books and in the most prestigious international scientific journals in the field of Sociology and Political Science.
